地理信息系统简称为GIS，是IT业的重要组成部分，当前应用于各个领域。本课程结合任课教师近年来从事GIS应用方面的科研项目及已获成果，全方位、综合地讲授有关GIS的理论知识和实践应用，涉及地理信息系统数据结构、空间数据处理、空间分析方法等，并结合中学新课标中有关部分，将中学地理教育与大学地理教育有机的联系，使学生对地理学研究及相关学科研究中的强大研究手段有所了解。
Geographic Information System is abbreviated with GIS, and it is one of the main components in the Information Technology industry, which is widely used in every fields. Combined with the scientific research projects which are engaged by the teacher in GIS application aspects and the research achievements which are obtained in recent years, this course teaches undergraduates the theoretical knowledge and practical application of GIS, such as the data structure of GIS, the processing of spatial data, the methods of spatial analysis and so on. Connecting the geography education of high middle school and university by considering the new standard of middle school, this course enables the student to understand the powerful research tools in the researches of geography and related disciplines.
